8th Annual Eastside Volunteer Fair was a “home run”.

Family Resource Center hosted its 8th annual Eastside Volunteer Fair at
Crossroads Bellevue on April 23. The event is designed to provide a
"one-stop" opportunity for the community to identify volunteer opportunities
in which they would like to participate.

Some of the comments we heard from our participants:

  • "The Fair is a home run," said Molly Marks, YWCA Family Village”
  • "This was excellent from start to finish...The Fair was the best my coworker has seen in 15 years serving as a volunteer coordinator" said Kelly Martineau, Bellevue Schools VIBES Volunteer Program
  • “This is the best of its kind that I have attended...amazing,” Karen Klft, Eastside Heritage Center”.
  • Family Resource Center did a great job advertising for the event.
The fair was very worthwhile for our agency," said Jonnett Odom, Hopelink.

From our public surveys:

  • Most common overall impression:  "Great!"
  • Did you find a volunteer activity? "Yes!"
  • Most common suggestion for improvement:  "Nothing!"

"The event was first designed eight years ago by the 18 agencies providing
services from the campus," FRC Executive Director Pam Mauk said. "It was
held at the Center, but the ever growing numbers of agencies wishing to
participate and the numbers of visitors have led to establishing the event
at a large shopping center."

The City of Bellevue's Cultural Diversity Program and the Bellevue
International School partnered with the Center in providing performances on
the Crossroads stage during the event.

The Fair is designed to increase one of the major resources used by all
agencies:  volunteers. It also serves as a means to focus attention on the
multiple needs of nonprofits and the many ways for visitors to "weave
themselves into the community" through services and support opportunities.

The Fair was sponsored by Alexander, Morford & Woo, Davis Wright Tremaine, Kid's Club, McEachern Family Foundation and Redmond National Bank, with in-kind contributions from partners Crossroads Bellevue, King County Journal, DTMarshall Printing, City of Bellevue Cultural Diversity Program and Bellevue International School.
