Family Resource Center meets $150,000 challenge

Several recent gifts have put Family Resource Center over the top in its campaign to successfully raise $150,000 to tap a $150,000 matching grant from the Paul G. Allen Charitable Foundation.

Gifts from ten businesses, six foundations, three faith communities, four cities (Kirkland, Redmond, Bellevue and Issaquah) and individuals were involved in garnering the match. The gifts support an effort to increase program dollars for agencies on the Family Resource Center campus that serve 48,000 people each year, half of them children.

"Our goal is to ask for financial support from each citizen in our community who benefits from a healthy and strong support system for people in need, which is to say, everyone," said Karen Bates, Family Resource Center's Fulfilling Our Vision campaign chair. "We've been very pleased by the support."

Most recent donors include Medina Foundation (whose $50,000 gift allowed the Center to garner the matching gift), the City of Issaquah, the D.V. & Ida McEachern Charitable Trust, and Redmond National Bank.

Family Resource Center's project aims to increase program dollars at 18 health and human service agencies by the simple means of paying off the Center's mortgage. Instead of funds for interest payments to the bank, the Center will redirect $154,000 dollars each year to programs providing medical and dental services, getting the homeless back to work, supporting programs for at-risk youth and much more.

Over $700,000 has been raised to date.

Family Resource Center is now offering to the public the opportunity to purchase bricks for the Center's courtyard inscribed with donor names.
