Quiz time!
1) Which Redmond businesses serve more than 50,000 customers each year from downtown Redmond? 2) Of those businesses, which serve people from as far south as Covington and as far north as Bothell, as far
west as Seattle and east as Snoqualmie Valley? 3) Whose customer base is composed in half by children? 4) Narrowing your focus now: which business makes up 5% of its customers from the homeless? 5) Finally, which
business is a national model, hosting 18 independent organizations with a hundred programs at a unique downtown Redmond campus?
Did you guess Family Resource Center? Without a headline clue, perhaps you would not.
Our friends often refer to the Center as "the best kept secret on the Eastside."
Family Resource Center is an innovative community benefit (read: nonprofit) organization that fosters partnerships and increases
access to community services. Eighteen nonprofit organizations provide the Eastside with food, shelter, medical and dental care, counseling, childcare, disability supports, mental health services and much more from our
"one-stop" three-building campus.
Some of the agencies on our campus with which you may be familiar are Hopelink, Friends of Youth, Seattle Mental Health, Child Care Resources, Youth Eastside Services
and Eastside Community Health Center, to name a few.
I am grateful to accept an invitation to write a monthly column in Redmond Business. The column will help us meet our goal of increasing awareness of the rich
array of services available on our campus for you, your family and your employees. In addition, there are a great many community issues, demographic changes and calls to partner that are important to Redmond and need a voice
and a venue for discussion.
What did you learn this month? Family Resource Center is an innovative nonprofit agency serving 50,000 people from throughout the Eastside, half of them children. Good job.
