City of Bellevue joins Redmond and Kirkland In supporting Family Resource Center campaign
The Bellevue City Council
approved a gift of $10,000 to Family Resource Center's Fulfilling Our Vision campaign at Monday's meeting (9/15/03). The funds match the gifts made to the campaign by both the City of Kirkland and the City of Redmond.
Family Resource Center's project aims to increase program dollars at 18 health and human service agencies by the simple means of paying off the Center's mortgage.
Instead of funds for interest payments to the bank, the Center will redirect $154,000 dollars each year to programs providing medical and dental services, getting the homeless back to work, supporting programs for at-risk youth and much more.
Family Resource Center Executive Director Pam Mauk said,
"Because of the unusual nature of our campaign (it's a capital campaign, but it significantly impacts agencies' abilities to provide services), we fell outside some funding guidelines. We are very grateful for the support of councilmembers, human services commissioners and staff in all three cities who saw the unique opportunities presented by this project. Kirkland Deputy Mayor Joan McBride has been particularly helpful in rallying support."
All three Councils' gifts will be doubled thanks to a matching pledge from the Paul G. Allen Charitable Foundation that will match gifts up to $150,000. For information, call 425-869-6699.
